TUCANA IRAF NETWORK ARCHIVE For a complete listing of the contents of the archive, transfer and examine the file "ls-lR.Z" in the current directory. For example, on a BSD system: ftp> binary ftp> get ls-lR.Z % zcat ls-lR.Z | page Selected other files or directories: README this file NOTES log of all changes to the archive - check this file occasionally to see what is new ls-lR.Z index to the files in this archive (compressed) ls-ltR.Z same, sorted by time in each directory iraf iraf network archive iraf/FAQ frequently asked questions list for IRAF iraf/conf November 1991 IRAF conference information iraf/docs IRAF documentation archive iraf/v29 Version 2.9[.N] IRAF RELEASE iraf/v210 Version 2.10[.N] IRAF RELEASE iraf.old old iraf ftp archive (addon packages) adassconf ADASS conference information contrib user contributed software misc miscellaneous stuff not in iraf distribution pub temp storage for incoming or outgoing files tex AAS TeX macros util UTILIITES for use with the archive util/compress.tar compress program source for unix systems util/compress_vms.exe compress executable for vms util/compress_vms.tar compress program source for vms systems util/sum.c utility to compute file checksums util/sum_vms.exe sum executable for vms THE IRAF RELEASE To get IRAF from the network archive you will need to review the instructions in the README file in the release directory, plus the README file for each IRAF distribution (host system). For example, to get IRAF V2.9 and install it on a Sun workstation, review the instructions in iraf/v29/README iraf/v29/SOS4/README More complete instructions are given in the v29/README file. Please fill out and return the REGISTER form (iraf/REGISTER) if you install IRAF! ADDON OR LAYERED SOFTWARE In addition to the standard IRAF release, there are a number of addon or layered packages available, which may be optionally installed in IRAF. This includes new software which is still undergoing testing, optional packages which everyone might not need, and user contributed software. At the present time all optional layered packages are available in the network archive in the iraf.old directory. If you have developed software for IRAF which you would like to share, let us know and we will put it in the archive! Very large layered packages developed and maintained by outside sites (such as STSDAS, PROS, etc.) are currently not available from the IRAF network archive; you can obtain this software directly from the site which develops and support it. IRAF DOCUMENTATION ARCHIVE Selected IRAF manuals, cookbooks, technical papers, and so on are available in printable text or Postscript form in the directory iraf/docs. If you don't find what you are looking for, check again later. The documentation archive is new and old documents are continually being converted and added to the archive. NOTES ON FILE COMPRESSION Most files in this network archive are stored using file compression to speed network transfers and save disk space in the archive. In most cases, if the file is compressed it will have a ".Z" extension. Most UNIX systems come with utilities such as UNCOMPRESS and ZCAT for uncompressing compressed files. If your system does not have these utilities, there are versions for most UNIX systems and for VMS in the UTIL subdirectory.
