Linux/IRAF Site Manager's Guide
Linux/IRAF Site Manager's Guide
IRAF is currently supported on all PC models capable of running Linux. A
minimal system for running Linux/IRAF will be a personal machine with at
least 500 Mb of disk storage and 8-16Mb of memory. For scientific use, a
color screen (16 inch is fine) capable of at least 1024x768 resolution and
several hundred Mb of free disk is desirable. A CD-ROM is desirable but not
required. A DAT or Exabyte drive on a SCSI adapter may be required for bulk
data interchange and system backups. This is a minimal system; PC hardware
is so cost effective today that a system with 16-32 Mb of RAM and several Gb
of disk is recommended. For optimimum performance a fast Pentium processor,
a 256 Kb or larger cache and a fast local bus such as PCI is recommended.
