IRAF V2.12.2 BETA Now Available

The BETA release of IRAF V2.12.2 is now available for Sun, Redhat Linux and Mac OS X systems from

        ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub/V2.12.2-BETA

V2.12.2 is primarily a bug-fix release required to support the GEMINI package and newer versions of some operating systems. As such we hope to limit the BETA period to just two weeks before releasing the final distribution. Barring any major bugs found, we expect the announce the final V2.12.2 release on December 20.

Developers are encouraged upgrade if they think their software should be tested against the new release, however most user sites should wait for the final version to avoid installing the system twice. Due to a number of system bug fixes, a complete installation will be required and all external package should be relinked against this version for testing.

The beta release does not contain a detailed revisions list or installation documentation (however the installation procedures are the same as always), these will be prepared for the final release along with a complete set of PC-IRAF binaries. Note that with this release support for Mac OS X 10.1 is officially being dropped (although we expect the binaries may still work) and 10.3 is being added. Redhat support now include versions 6/7/8/9 and Fedora Core 1 with a single set of binaries, we would be especially interested in hearing of and experiences using Redhat Enterprise Linux.

Please report and bugs or comments to iraf@noao.edu as soon as they are found. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
